IDEXLYON initiatives

A number of initiatives in major strategic fields

IDEXLYON supports and funds over fifty initiatives that enhance the site's attractiveness and international outreach, strengthen its training and research potential, develop partnerships with socio-economic stakeholders and improve access to knowledge and its dissemination.
The various forms of action:
  • Initiatives taken for calls for proposals;
  • Interdisciplinary initiatives in major strategic fields;
  • Structural initiatives aiming to build an integrated, world-class university.

Research

Supporting an innovative and outstanding scientific dynamic
IDEXLYON funding: 1 million euros/year

European Mission and ERC support (European Research Council)

Objectives: To strengthen the site's capacity to host large European projects and offer specific support schemes for European Research Council (ERC) projects: monitoring, coaching, support, etc.
Target audience: Researchers and faculty members in Lyon Saint-Étienne.

Ethics platform

Objectives: The platform aims to develop and unite research ethics initiatives to:
• Ensure monitoring and to build a regional network to create opportunities for reflection and discussions between researchers, faculty members , practitioners and civil society;
• Offer training for PhD students, researchers and faculty members;
• Develop research projects in epistemology, normative ethics and applied ethics for the research conducted.
Target audience: PhD students, researchers and faculty members in Lyon Saint-Étienne wishing to integrate an ethical and social dynamic into their studies.

Open Access and bibliometrics

Objectives: To strengthen the profile of publications by researchers and faculty members from Lyon Saint-Étienne and to develop bibliometric analysis tools tailored to the needs of IDEXLYON's scientific management.
Are supported: The creation of a HAL portal (multidisciplinary open access archives) for the Université de Lyon. For International Open Access Week, the Université de Lyon, in collaboration with numerous partners, is organizing the Open Access, a day of conferences and debates.

Support for thematic schools

Objectives: to support thematic schools with a dual objective of:
• disseminating the latest scientific knowledge to audiences with an interest in a particular scientific theme or a clearly defined methodological approach;
• strengthening the international reputation of the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site and its research units.
Are supported: far-reaching international thematic schools in order to enhance the site's international outreach by promoting and developing its scientific research.

Support for symposiums

Objectives: supporting international events with a double objective of disseminating scientific knowledge to a wide audience and strengthening the international reputation of the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site and its research units.
Are supported: wide-reaching international symposiums held on the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site in order to enhance the site's international outreach by promoting and developing its scientific research.

Training

Developing attractive and innovative training opportunities 
IDEXLYON funding: 2 million euros/year

Innovation in undergraduate degrees

Objectives: To establish student orientation models enabling them to build successful university career plans. These models will take into account the diversity of students coming to the university after their baccalaureate to offer a series of courses that cover a variety of levels, paces of study and multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and even vocational courses.
Target audience: students and future students of Lyon Saint-Étienne.

IDEXLYON certified master's programs

Important dates: The call for certification was launched in September 2017
Objective: To identify and support the creation of quality Master's programs, enhancing the Université de Lyon's international profile.
Are supported: Accredited Master's diplomas and courses of Université de Lyon with strong international appeal and in connection with the IDEXLYON themes.

Support for PhD graduates and the promotion of PhDs

Objectives: To promote and improve the quality and reputation of PhD diplomas from the Université de Lyon. To monitor and enhance the employability of trained PhD students by supporting them to enter well-considered employment in line with the skills gained during their university careers.
Are supported: Multidisciplinary training programs, initiatives and opportunities to meet socio-economic partners and support for PhD mobility.

Center for teaching innovation

Important dates: To be launched at the beginning of 2018
Objectives: To create a center for resources and sharing in connection with the multidisciplinary challenges of teaching innovation, in the field of digital learning and in training programs connected to the IDEXLYON strategic areas.
Target audience: Students and faculty  members from Lyon Saint-Étienne involved in innovative training programs.

International

Affirming the UdL's position in the global higher education and research landscape
IDEXLYON funding: 1,1 million euros/year

International Alliance

Objectives: To establish research partnerships in shared international laboratories, as well as joint and complementary courses, particularly at Master's and PhD level.
These partnerships:
  • strengthen the Université de Lyon's international profile for its major academic areas;
  • build links between the academic, industrial and political sectors;
  • develop cultural initiatives.
Are supported: The creation of mobility programs, the impetus of collaborative scientific platforms, the organization of workshops and scientific gatherings.

Institute for Advanced Study - Collegium de Lyon

Objectives: To host top-level international researchers conducting research in the site's priority scientific areas and working closely with laboratories, to promote exchanges between disciplines, cultures and languages.
Target audience: Top-level international researchers with (permanent or temporary) work contracts from international universities and research institutions (excluding French research institutions abroad) who would like to carry out an academic research program at one of the Université de Lyon's institutions. Applicants with French nationality are eligible if they meet this requirement.

Espace ULYS

Objectives: To improve the welcome facilities and living conditions for international PhD students, researchers and faculty members, as well as their partners.
Target audience: International scientists and PhD students and their families coming to one of the Université de Lyon's institutions.

Student life

Supporting student initiatives.
IDEXLYON funding: 300,000 euros/year

Support funds for students initiatives

Objectives: To support student initiatives through IDEXLYON by creating a student community network, promoting student engagement and launching projects and local student initiatives, for example.
Target audience: The students and future students of Lyon Saint-Étienne wishing to help improve and promote student life at the Université de Lyon.

Student services

Objectives: To establish a series of new schemes aiming to improve the quality of daily life for students. These schemes will aim to improve access and life on the campuses to promote independence and success; encouraging participation in high-level university sports competitions; organizing a Université de Lyon event to strengthen the sense of belonging of students and promoting student services.
Target audience: The students and future students of Lyon Saint-Étienne.

Students grants

Objectives: To create student grants through IDEXLYON:
• Outward and inward mobility grants for Master's students studying between the International Alliance's partner universities;
  • Merit scholarships, notably for challenging and original programs (MD-PhD) and postgraduate projects;
  • Grants for high-level student athletes.
Target audience: The students and future students of Lyon Saint-Étienne. International students enrolled at the International Alliance's partner universities.

Socio-economic partnerships

Developing flagship projects with socio-economic stakeholders
IDEXLYON funding: 1,3 million euros/year

Entrepreneurship center/BEELYS

Objectives: To support each student and young graduate in projects from the initial idea to the end product and to help develop entrepreneurial skills by offering various support programs and services for student entrepreneurs.
Target audience: students at the Lyon Saint-Étienne institutions, graduates and young graduates with an idea or project setting up a new business.

Fabrique de l’Innovation

Objectives: To strengthen the Université de Lyon's capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship in order to improve the employability of its students, to promote the skills of teacher researchers, particularly through building links with socio-economic stakeholders, and to take an active role in the region's attractiveness and development.
Target audience: The students and faculty members at the Lyon Saint-Étienne institutions, businesses and authorities, as well as all civil society.

Social Innovation Laboratory

Objectives: To build a true social innovation laboratory through scientific interrogation. This initiative will contribute towards a cultural approach to science that goes far beyond institutional approaches of promoting knowledge. It will focus on the following areas:
  • Broadening the spectrum of eligible applications to bring about the emergence of new innovation and research needs for our areas of excellence;
  • Embedding the Science Shop into academic life, notably through the creation of a scientific network for IDEXLYON themes, which could shed light on scientific and societal challenges in training programs;
  • Launching the 'Bachelor's degree to PhD' scheme.

  • Organizations with problems that require scientific insight,

Chairs

Objectives: To develop research and innovation programs in scientific fields that are crucial for the development of technology with strong societal impacts. This action aims to further coordinate the ways in which universities and industries approach key subjects for major IDEXLYON themes.
Are supported: Research programs, the subject matter of which is identified by the Academic Group and socio-economic partners supporting IDEXLYON.

Shared laboratories

Objectives: To develop research and innovation programs in scientific fields that are crucial for the development of technology with strong societal impacts. IDEXLYON aims to play a key role throughout the following stages: the mobilization of scientific communities, ideation, etc.
Are supported: research programs, the subject matter of which is identified by the Academic Group and socio-economic partners supporting IDEXLYON.

Structural European projects

Objectives: The H2020 programs, which require strong interaction with the socio-economic fabric of our community (such as the Knowledge Innovation Community -KIC), aim to help build an integrated model for training, research and innovation that draws on the site's scientific strengths and the Université de Lyon's schemes to promote specific activities (innovation, entrepreneurship, etc.).
Are supported: The incubation of KIC projects and the creation of consortiums and partnerships.

IDEXLYON fellowships

Important dates: The call for proposals is open until March 2018.
Objective: To attract successful researchers and faculty members to the Lyon Saint-Étienne site and to create new research teams working on IDEXLYON themes.
Target audience: Researchers and faculty members with higher qualifications who would like to establish themselvest the Lyon Saint-Étienne site.

Impulsion

Important dates: The 2018 call for proposals is closed
Objective: To provide an attractive research and training environment for researchers and faculty members who have just arrived at one of the Université de Lyon's institutions.
Target audience: New faculty members and researchers joining the Université de Lyon with strong international outreaches.
