The Université de Lyon’s IADoc@UdL project was developed in response to the 2019 call for “Doctoral Contracts in Artificial Intelligence” programs launched by the French National Research Agency (Agence nationale de la recherche – ANR).

At the end of the "AI for Humanity" day held in Paris on 29 March 2018 a national program for Artificial Intelligence (AI) was initiated with a major research component.

Contributing to doubling the number of PhD students trained in AI is one of the objectives of this research component, which was presented on 28 November by the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Secretary of State for Digital Technology and the Secretary General for Investment.

In line with this objective, the French National Research Agency (Agence nationale de la recherche – ANR) launches a call for "PhD contracts in Artificial Intelligence" programs.

The IADoc@UdL program is the winner of this call for programs and will be co-funded, with 50% of the funding coming from the ANR and 50% from the Lyon Saint-Étienne site’s institutions.

It will be divided into two campaigns for high-level doctoral students for 2021-2024 and 2022-2025.
